Horse First, Then Cart… prioritizing nervous system regulation during pregnancy

Updated: Aug 21
What do you do when it’s all too much? Maybe it’s “morning sickness”...all day. Maybe your hips ache and you slept poorly. Too hot, too cold, never just right. Those days where everything is too this and too that and never just right. Yep.
Being neurodivergent or highly-sensitive and pregnant is a lot.
You feel like you should keep going, have to keep going. Well maybe you can, but are you getting the “order of operations” flipped?
You’ve heard the saying, “Getting the cart before the horse”? It means the horse is trying to push the cart instead of using the mechanical advantage of pulling it. That’s what it’s like when you DO first and REST second. Regulating your nervous system during pregnancy is always the "horse". Start there. Breathe. Hum. Give yourself a hug, a break, some comedy, some special interest immersion. A nap.
What if you REST FIRST, REGULATE FIRST (even LET GO FIRST)? Then, if it’s still important, pull that cart. Or ask someone to pull it for you. After all, you're building a human being. Maybe that’s enough for today!
